Chetan Ahiwalay, MS

HelpMeSee STCC and OIDC Instructor
Senior Instructor & Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Ahiwalay is HelpMeSee as Senior Instructor and Subject Matter Expert. He performed fellowships at two of India’s top eye hospitals, a fellowship in phacoemulsification at Sankara Nethralaya and another in medical retina at Aravind Eye Hospital.

In his role at HelpMeSee, Dr. Ahiwalay assists Dr. Bacchav in training and managing the HelpMeSee team of instructors. He advises on the development of the MSICS surgery simulators from a training perspective. In addition to his work with HelpMeSee, Dr. Ahiwalay practices cataract and anterior segment surgery extensively and has vast experience in MSICS practice and training.


HelpMeSee STCC Instructor
Medical Officer, Africa – Paris, France

Dr. Jean-Marie André is HelpMeSee’s Medical Officer for Africa and is a Qualified Simulation Training Instructor. He has established a partnership through the Marseille School of Medicine to successfully train more than fifty cataract surgeons on MSICS in the West Africa region.

He has trained cataract surgeons in MSICS in Madagascar, Togo and The Gambia and is a renowned inventor holding numerous patents for cataract surgery instrument design.

Dr. André is currently providing distance education webinars on MSICS to African cataract surgeons. He is working with the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute to develop an MSICS training curriculum that will consist of HelpMeSee Simulator practice sessions and supervised live surgeries. In the future, he will provide MSICS training to African cataract surgeons out of the Mumbai Learning Development Center.

Ashish Bacchav, MBBS, DNB (Ophthalmology), FAEH (Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery)

Lead Instructor & Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Bacchav joined HelpMeSee in 2017 as Lead Instructor and Subject Matter Expert. He is a Fellow of Cornea & Microsurgery at Aravind Eye Hospital in Tirunelveli, India, and a senior consultant with eye hospitals in Thane, India.

Dr. Bacchav’s experience includes more than 10,000 surgeries in MSICS, phacoemulsification, LASIK, cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Bacchav will play a critical role in leading and training the team of instructors who will teach the first class of MSICS surgeons. As a Subject Matter Expert, he will also work with Dr. Nair to assist with the MSICS surgery simulation development for training purposes.

Dr. Karla Pamela González Daher

HelpMeSee OIDC Instructor – Querétaro, México

Dr. González is an Anterior Segment Surgeon at the Mexicano de Oftalmología (IMO) in Querétaro, Mexico, where she teaches phacoemulsification and Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery to residents. Dr. González qualified as an HelpMeSee Ocular Incisions and Dissections Course Instructor in 2019. Working with Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Van Lansingh, Dr. González installed the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator to IMO, the first in Latin America.

As part of the HelpMeSee Partnership Training program, Dr. González will teach Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery using the Simulator and Cataract Surgery eBook.

In addition to her surgical appointment, Dr. González is President of the Research Ethics Committee and Head of Teaching at Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología/La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She is also a Collaborator for the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Dr. González graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, where she completed her Instituto residency with Mexicano de Oftalmología I.A.P. and subspecialty study in ocular anterior segment microsurgery. She has a Master’s Degree in Bioethics from the Center for Advanced Social Research.

Akshay Gopinathan Nair, MBBS, DNB (Ophthalmology), FLVPEI (Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery & Ocular Oncology)

Simulation Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Nair joined HelpMeSee in 2017 working today as a Simulation Subject Matter Expert. He has a Master of Science degree from Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Chennai, India.

After his graduation, Dr. Nair underwent fellowship training programs in ophthalmic plastic surgery, ocular oncology and facial aesthetics at the L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India and at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai Hospital in the United States.

Dr. Nair currently serves as faculty at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and the Advanced Eye Hospital & Institute in Mumbai, India.

Dr. Nair has a strong academic background with more than 60 peer-reviewed, indexed publications and 10 textbook chapters. With his expertise and insights in ophthalmic microsurgery, Dr. Nair contributes immensely to the development of HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator and training programs.

Minal ShahBaldota, DO (India), FLEI (Phaco)

HelpMeSee OIDC Instructor – New York, United States

Dr. ShahBaldota is an experienced General Physician from Chandivali, Mumbai with numerous patients in her 26 years of experience as a practicing doctor. She has an Advance Training Fellowship in Phacoemulsification, Advance Training Fellowship in Glaucoma at Aravind Eye Hospital, Advance Training Fellowship in Refractive Surgery (LASIK).

When not working for HelpMeSee, Dr. ShahBaldota practices at Eyes First Clinic and Surgery Centre in Chandivali, Mumbai. Dr. ShahBaldota is a member of the All India Ophthalmological Society and the Bombay Ophthalmologists’ Association (BOA).

Tejas Sheth, MBBS, MS

HelpMeSee STCC and OIDC Instructor – Mumbai, India

Dr. Sheth joined HelpMeSee in 2017 as an MSICS Instructor and worked in six years of practice in trust and private hospitals in India. Dr. Sheth has four years of experience in the field of pharmacovigilance (medical review) at Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai, India.

Dr. Sheth is part of the team of instructors training the first class of surgeons in MSICS using the Eye Surgery Simulator and simulation-based learning system.

Xu Xu, MD

Qualified STCC Instructor
HelpMeSee Partnership with Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Xu has performed ophthalmology research, teaching and clinical work in China for the past 20 years. She teaches MSICS to young doctors from the remote Western provinces of China.

Since December 2006, Dr. Xu has operated on over 4,000 of the total 13,000 charitable MSICS patients treated by Wenzhou Medical University.

Zelin Zhao, MD

Qualified STCC Instructor
HelpMeSee Partnership with Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Zelin Zhao graduated from Wenzhou Medical University in 2008 and has performed ophthalmology clinical work and research for the past ten years. Dr. Zhao mastered MSICS in 2013 and has restored vision to more than 1,000 cataract patients.

Dr. Zhao has participated in four charitable MSICS treatment campaigns in China’s Plateau Region and restored sight to cataract patients in Burkina Faso as part of an African national charity project. Dr. Zhao has a passion for teaching and to date, has trained three doctors on MISCS.
