A Giving Guide:
Legacy & Smart Giving
This guide is designed to help you make the most of your giving, to any cause you care about. Each giving type brings unique tax benefits, allowing you to donate in a way that also maximizes your financial strategy. Keep this guide handy and join us in making a difference that lasts a lifetime.
Legacy Giving
Everyone should have an estate plan to support their future and protect what they love. And by including a bequest to HelpMeSee in your plans, you can create a legacy that ends cataract blindness for future generations. FreeWill’s online estate planning tool makes it easy and cost-free to make your plan, and add the necessary language to create your legacy.
Record Your Planned Gift
By notifying us of your gift in your estate plan, we can take extra care to help ensure your gift is directed to the specific program or purpose of your choosing. It only takes a few minutes to fill out this form, helps us keep our records up to date, and protects your gift intentions.
Designate Your Beneficiaries
Did you know that your will does not control the distribution of certain assets (called non-probate assets)? To ensure that those assets go to the people and organizations you love, you must be sure to properly name your beneficiaries. FreeWill’s online tool allows you to plan your beneficiaries and ensure your assets support the people and causes you love.
Reach Out To Our Team
All of these methods provide a pathway to ensure that more of your resources reach those in need, amplifying the good you do in the world. Consider these options as sustainable methods for creating a world where sight is universal.

Donor-Advised Fund Grants
Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) grants are an increasingly popular way to support HelpMeSee and there’s good reason! It is like your own charitable savings account. You contribute to the fund as frequently as you like and then recommend grants to nonprofits like ours, all while potentially earning immediate tax benefits.
STOCK GIFTS & APPRECIATED ASSETS
Donating appreciated assets and/or stocks avoids federal capital gains taxes and provides a federal income tax deduction for the current market value of the gift. Similar state tax benefits are also provided in most of the country.
Qualified Charitable Distribution
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a nonprofit, counted towards your required minimum distributions for the year, without treating the distribution as taxable income. This might lower your taxable income while helping us fight cataract blindness.
IRA GIVING
For HelpMeSee supporters age 70.5 or older, IRA gifts present a powerful way to save while you give. Generally speaking, IRA gifts are always tax free and can help you reduce your future tax burden, meet your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you must take one, and make a meaningful difference to people and communities suffering with cataract blindness.
CRYPTO GIVING
Cryptocurrency donations are a new, tax-efficient way to give. By donating cryptocurrency, you potentially avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and can deduct the fair market value of the asset on your tax return.
