\u00a0<\/strong>Cuando la Dra. Min Gao empez\u00f3 a estudiar oftalmolog\u00eda, so\u00f1aba con convertirse en una cirujana independiente que pudiera ayudar a devolver la vista a la poblaci\u00f3n china. En 2006, la Dra. Gao comenz\u00f3 su carrera trabajando en el Hospital Chaotan de Pek\u00edn. En 2014, termin\u00f3 su programa de doctorado. Cuando se gradu\u00f3, la Dra. Gao se uni\u00f3 a los m\u00e1s de 18.000 oftalm\u00f3logos de China que esperaban recibir formaci\u00f3n para realizar operaciones de cataratas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

Afortunadamente para la Dra. Gao, su supervisor, el Dr. Xiao,<\/span> se fij\u00f3 en su iniciativa y fue su mentor. Como uno de los cirujanos voluntarios de HelpMeSee en aquel momento, el Dr. Xiao remiti\u00f3 a la Dra. Gao para que recibiera formaci\u00f3n en cirug\u00eda de cataratas. En poco tiempo, la Dra. Gao viaj\u00f3 a Chitrakoot (India), donde el hospital Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya (SNC) le ofreci\u00f3 formaci\u00f3n en cirug\u00eda manual de cataratas con peque\u00f1as incisiones (MSICS).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

Tras unos meses de estudio junto a cirujanos del SNC, la Dra. Gao estaba lista para poner a prueba sus habilidades quir\u00fargicas. Al final de su formaci\u00f3n, un funcionario m\u00e9dico de HelpMeSee evalu\u00f3 su formaci\u00f3n quir\u00fargica y determin\u00f3 que hab\u00eda adquirido suficientes conocimientos para empezar a tratar a pacientes con cataratas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

Con nuevos conocimientos y experiencia, la Dra. Gao regres\u00f3 a China para continuar su formaci\u00f3n bajo la supervisi\u00f3n de su mentor, el Dr. Xiao. Trabajando codo con codo, la Dra. Gao realiz\u00f3 250 operaciones de restauraci\u00f3n de la vista bajo la experta mirada del Dr. Xiao. Ambos m\u00e9dicos se unieron a la campa\u00f1a de HelpMeSee para recuperar la vista en una regi\u00f3n rural de la provincia de Shandong, donde ayudaron a recuperar la vista a 67 personas m\u00e1s. Con esta formaci\u00f3n, la Dra. Gao ha hecho realidad su sue\u00f1o de convertirse en cirujana independiente.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

La Dra. Gao es una de los miles de oftalm\u00f3logos de China que necesitan formaci\u00f3n quir\u00fargica para tratar la ceguera por cataratas. Sabe que es afortunada porque la demanda de formaci\u00f3n supera la capacidad, a pesar de que China tiene muchos pacientes en espera de tratamiento para las cataratas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
