Los temas tratados se centraron en los medios para incluir la atenci\u00f3n oftalmol\u00f3gica como un derecho humano en el contexto de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y la prestaci\u00f3n de atenci\u00f3n oftalmol\u00f3gica durante la actual pandemia de COVID-19. El moderador fue Peter Holland, Director General de la Asociaci\u00f3n Internacional para la Prevenci\u00f3n de la Ceguera. Entre los panelistas figuran Ciku Metenge, de Orbis International, Silvio Mariotti, de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud, y Amanda Hwang, de Fred Hollows.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seg\u00fan el Dr. Lansingh, aunque la prevalencia de la ceguera ha disminuido, el n\u00famero real de personas ciegas es asombroso debido al aumento de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial. El Informe sobre la Visi\u00f3n de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial de la Salud de octubre de 2019 afirma que al menos 2.200 millones de personas tienen una discapacidad visual. Mil millones de ellas padecen problemas de salud ocular prevenibles o tratables, como ceguera por cataratas o defectos de refracci\u00f3n no corregidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En mayo, el Dr. Lansingh fue llamado a formar parte de un grupo de expertos en la 73\u00aa sesi\u00f3n de la Asamblea Mundial de la Salud.
