In the last of our series on doctors from Burundi, who have undergone the HelpMeSee training at Universit\u00e9 m\u00e9dicale de Wenzhou<\/a>, meet Anodine Daliko Nishimwe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

La vie au Burundi est difficile pour beaucoup. Quatre-vingt pour cent de la population vit dans la pauvret\u00e9. La plupart vivent de l'agriculture de subsistance. Le travail de la terre fait partie de la vie. Les r\u00e9coltes sont votre revenu et si vous ne voyez pas comment vous occuper de votre terre, il n'y a pas d'argent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Les maladies oculaires et les cataractes non trait\u00e9es sont end\u00e9miques au Burundi et il faut davantage d'ophtalmologistes pour soutenir les ophtalmologistes actuels qui sont une quinzaine. Une formation est n\u00e9cessaire, mais le Burundi n'a pas de programme d'ophtalmologie. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la m\u00e9decine g\u00e9n\u00e9rale en Roumanie, \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine et de pharmacie \"Carol Davila\" de Bucarest, Anodine est retourn\u00e9e dans son pays o\u00f9 elle a travaill\u00e9 pendant une dizaine de mois comme m\u00e9decin g\u00e9n\u00e9raliste dans un h\u00f4pital local et pendant pr\u00e8s d'un an comme conseill\u00e8re technique en mati\u00e8re de VIH dans un programme fond\u00e9 par le Fonds mondial dans le cadre d'un programme national de lutte contre le sida. Pendant cette p\u00e9riode, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 confront\u00e9e \u00e0 la situation r\u00e9elle du manque d'ophtalmologues au Burundi, en particulier de chirurgiens de la cataracte, ce qui l'a encourag\u00e9e \u00e0 devenir ophtalmologue afin d'aider les aveugles de la cataracte au Burundi \u00e0 retrouver la vue. Ceux qui veulent aider, comme Anodine, doivent quitter le pays pour \u00e9tudier. Heureusement, Anodine a d\u00e9couvert le programme de formation HelpMeSee Manual Small Incision propos\u00e9 par l'universit\u00e9 m\u00e9dicale de Wenzhou, en Chine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Anodine says charities from America and China usually come to Burundi to help, but she wants her country to have enough ophthalmologists. And HelpMeSee is helping those like Anodine, as well as others, with a mission of training many more cataract specialists<\/a> who can make a real impact to cure the over 60 million blind and severely visually impaired across the world with untreated cataracts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
