Of those, 17 million are bilaterally blind, and 83 million have moderate to severe vision loss. With cataract surgery, those blind and severely visually impaired can have their sight restored. One of the main challenges in addressing this issue is the shortage of cataract surgeons and their geographical location needed to perform enough surgeries to clear the backlog of people with untreated cataract. HelpMeSee has developed a solution, the <a href=\"https:\/\/helpmesee.org\/fr\/simulation-based-training\/\">HelpMeSee training system<\/a>, compromised of a virtual reality <a href=\"https:\/\/helpmesee.org\/fr\/program-features\/\">Simulateur de chirurgie oculaire<\/a>, with a standardized curriculum delivered by expert instructors. This solution provides an unprecedented opportunity to training institutions worldwide to transform cataract surgical training courses with the integration of high-fidelity simulation. L'article permet d'en savoir plus sur l'un des cours de formation par simulation HelpMeSee et sur les r\u00e9sultats d'une \u00e9tude men\u00e9e dans le cadre d'une \u00e9valuation pilote de son efficacit\u00e9 par rapport aux m\u00e9thodologies de formation conventionnelles pour former et pr\u00e9parer les chirurgiens novices avant d'entreprendre une formation chirurgicale en direct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/helpmesee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/HelpMeSee-Simulation-Based-Training-System-Leads-to-Fewer-Errors-in-Real-Life-Cataract-Surgery-Article-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6120\" title=\"Le syst\u00e8me de formation bas\u00e9 sur la simulation HelpMeSee permet de r\u00e9duire le nombre d&#039;erreurs dans la chirurgie de la cataracte dans la vie r\u00e9elle (Article-2)\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study is based on review of performance of Tunnel Construction tasks that is a signature segment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/helpmesee.org\/fr\/msics-course\/\">Chirurgie de la cataracte par petite incision manuelle<\/a> (MSICS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Un essai contr\u00f4l\u00e9 randomis\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9 avec une \u00e9tude comparative multicentrique impliquant 24 stagiaires de quatre institutions de formation et de cinq centres \u00e0 travers l'Inde. L'un des groupes a \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9 par simulation tandis que l'autre a re\u00e7u une formation classique avant de r\u00e9aliser collectivement 380 interventions chirurgicales. Les op\u00e9rations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9es et les performances \u00e9valu\u00e9es par des chirurgiens exp\u00e9riment\u00e9s masqu\u00e9s (sans que ces derniers sachent qui avait suivi quel type de formation). Cinq centres indiens ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude : LVPEI Hyderabad, LVPEI Bhubaneshwar, LVPEI Vizag, Sankara Nethralaya - Chennai, et Mahatme Eye Hospital \u00e0 Nagpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les r\u00e9sultats de l'\u00e9tude ont \u00e9t\u00e9 concluants : les chirurgiens form\u00e9s \u00e0 l'aide du syst\u00e8me de formation par simulation HelpMeSee ont obtenu de meilleurs r\u00e9sultats en chirurgie r\u00e9elle que le groupe form\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re conventionnelle. Une r\u00e9duction des erreurs chirurgicales allant jusqu'\u00e0 50% a \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9e lorsqu'ils ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 op\u00e9rer sur des patients r\u00e9els.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/helpmesee.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/HelpMeSee-Simulation-Based-Training-System-Leads-to-Fewer-Errors-in-Real-Life-Cataract-Surgery-Article-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6133\" title=\"Le syst\u00e8me de formation bas\u00e9 sur la simulation HelpMeSee permet de r\u00e9duire le nombre d&#039;erreurs dans la chirurgie de la cataracte (Article-3-mobile)\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les r\u00e9sultats confirment la valeur de la formation bas\u00e9e sur la simulation. Les chirurgiens novices form\u00e9s \u00e0 l'aide d'un cours bas\u00e9 sur la simulation ont commis moins d'erreurs au cours des 20 premi\u00e8res interventions chirurgicales r\u00e9elles suivant la formation, par rapport \u00e0 l'autre groupe form\u00e9 \u00e0 l'aide de m\u00e9thodes conventionnelles.
