Chetan Ahiwalay, MS

Senior Instructor & Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Ahiwalay is working with HelpMeSee as a Lead Instructor and Subject Matter Expert. He has completed fellowships at two of India’s top eye hospitals, a fellowship in phacoemulsification at Sankara Nethralaya and a fellowship in medical retina at Aravind Eye Hospital.

Dr. Ahiwalay supports the training and management of the HelpMeSee team of instructors and contributes to the development of the MSICS surgery simulator.

In addition to his work with HelpMeSee, Dr. Ahiwalay practices cataract and other anterior segment surgeries and has vast experience in MSICS practice and training.

JEAN-MARIE ANDRÉ, MD

HelpMeSee STCC Instructor
Medical Officer, Africa – Paris, France

Dr. Jean-Marie is the HelpMeSee Medical Officer for Africa. He has extensive experience in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery training.

Dr. André has instructed over fifty students from The Gambia, Togo and Madagascar in MSICS, many through a partnership with the Marseille School of Medicine. For HelpMeSee, Dr. André provides MSICS training out of the Mumbai Learning Development Center to trainees from Africa. Dr. Jean-Marie André has led distance education webinars on MSICS and in-person courses on Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) to MSICS conversion in Cameroon.

Today, Dr. André is working with the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute to develop an MSICS training curriculum that uses the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator that also includes supervised live surgeries.

Dr. André is a renowned inventor holding numerous patents for cataract surgery instrument design.

Ashish Bacchav, MBBS, DNB (Ophthalmology), FAEH (Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery)

Lead Instructor & Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Bacchav’s medical experience includes over 10,000 combined Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery, phacoemulsification, LASIK, cornea and refractive surgeries. He is a Fellow of Cornea & Microsurgery at Aravind Eye Hospital in Tirunelveli, India.

Dr. Bacchav joined HelpMeSee in 2017 as Lead Instructor and Subject Matter Expert. He leads the team of instructors teaching the MSICS surgeons. As a Subject Matter Expert, Dr. Bacchav worked with Dr. Nair to assist in the development of the Eye Surgery Simulator.

Dr. TERESA DIAZ FLORES

HelpMeSee STCC Instructor – Querétaro, México

Dr. Díaz is certified by HelpMeSee to teach Sclerolcorneal Tunnel Construction Course (STCC) at the Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología (IMO)/Autonomous University of Mexico, where she also completed a fellowship in Anterior Segment Surgery in March of 2020 and an ophthalmology residency 2018.

Dr. Diaz’s graduate thesis was on a comparison of the visual results of phacoemulsification cataract surgery with Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS). She received her board certification from the Mexican Council of Ophthalmology in 2018.   

Dr. Karla Pamela González Daher

HelpMeSee OIDC and STCC Instructor – Querétaro, México

Dr. González is an Anterior Segment Surgeon at the Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología (IMO) in Querétaro, Mexico, where she teaches phacoemulsification and Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery. Working with Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Van Lansingh, Dr. González installed the first HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator in Latin America at IMO. Dr. González is qualified as a HelpMeSee Ocular Incisions and Dissections Instructor.

As part of the HelpMeSee Partnership Training program, Dr. González will teach Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery using the Simulator and Cataract Surgery eBook.

In addition to her surgical appointment, Dr. González is President of the Research Ethics Committee and Head of Teaching at Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología/La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She is also a Collaborator for the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Dr. González graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, where she completed her Instituto residency with Mexicano de Oftalmología I.A.P. and subspecialty study in ocular anterior segment microsurgery. She has a Master’s Degree in Bioethics from the Center for Advanced Social Research.

Akshay Gopinathan Nair, MBBS, DNB (Ophthalmology), FLVPEI (Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery & Ocular Oncology)

Simulation Subject Matter Expert – Mumbai, India

Dr. Nair currently serves as faculty at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and the Advanced Eye Hospital & Institute in Mumbai, India. Dr. Nair has a strong academic background with more than 60 peer-reviewed, indexed publications and ten textbook chapters. His ophthalmic microsurgery expertise was invaluable to the development of the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator.

Dr. Nair graduated with a Master of Science degree from Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Chennai, India. After graduation, Dr. Nair underwent fellowship training programs in ophthalmic plastic surgery, ocular oncology and facial aesthetics at the L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India, as well as a fellowship at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai Hospital in the United States.

Minal ShahBaldota, DO (India), FLEI (Phaco)

HelpMeSee OIDC Instructor – New York, United States

Dr. Minal ShahBaldota, an ophthalmic surgeon, is a Subject Matter Expert with HelpMeSee, NY. Drawing on her extensive surgical experience spanning over 25 years, Dr. ShahBaldota is an integral member of the HelpMeSee team focused on the development of the Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) simulator.

Prior to her current role, she founded, owned, managed, and performed surgeries at Eyes First Clinic and Surgery Center in Mumbai, India.

Dr. ShahBaldota finished her specialization in Ophthalmology at Baroda Medical College.  She also completed a Fellowship in Phacoemulsification at Laxmi Eye Institute.  Additionally, she concluded a short-term Fellowship in Glaucoma at Aravind Eye Hospital, as well as Advanced Training in Refractive Surgery (LASIK) at New Vision Laser Center.

She is a life member of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) and the Bombay Ophthalmology Association (BOA). 

Tejas Sheth, MBBS, MS

HelpMeSee STCC and OIDC Instructor – Mumbai, India

Dr. Sheth has over nine years of ophthalmology practice experience in trust and private hospitals in India and four years of experience in pharmacovigilance (medical review) at Tata Consultancy Services in Mumbai, India. He joined HelpMeSee in 2017.

Dr. Sheth is on the team of instructors training surgeons in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery with the Eye Surgery Simulator and simulation-based learning system. Dr. Sheth is also closely involved in simulation development.

RUIXUE TU, MD

Qualified STCC Instructor
Resident of Cataract Center Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Tu has performed ophthalmology clinical work and research in the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University for the past six years.

She was awarded the Excellent Instructor of Wenzhou Medical University in 2019.

BINBIN XIE, MD, PH.D

Dr. Xie has seven years of cataract clinical work and research experience.

Xu Xu, MD

Qualified STCC Instructor
HelpMeSee Partnership with Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Xu has performed ophthalmology research, teaching and clinical work in China for the past 20 years. She teaches MSICS to young doctors from the remote Western provinces of China.

Since December 2006, Dr. Xu has operated on over 4,000 of the total 13,000 charitable MSICS patients treated by Wenzhou Medical University.

Zelin Zhao, MD

Qualified STCC Instructor
HelpMeSee Partnership with Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Zelin Zhao graduated from Wenzhou Medical University in 2008 and has performed ophthalmology clinical work and research for the past ten years. Dr. Zhao mastered MSICS in 2013 and has restored vision to more than 1,000 cataract patients.

Dr. Zhao has participated in four charitable MSICS treatment campaigns in China’s Plateau Region and restored sight to cataract patients in Burkina Faso as part of an African national charity project. Dr. Zhao has a passion for teaching and to date, has trained three doctors on MISCS.

KAIJING ZHOU, MD, PHD

Qualified STCC Instructor
Attending Physician of Cataract Center Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University – Wenzhou, China

Dr. Zhou specializes in intraocular refractive surgery and high myopia. He engages in clinical practice, teaching and cataract surgery research.

He is a reviewer of the journals ‘IOVS’ and “Aging and Disease.”
