Application Data Sharing Consent
HelpMeSee’s Mission is to provide the highest quality eye-surgery simulation-based training, specifically in the Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (“MSICS”) procedure, and to thereby facilitate high-quality, high-volume practice delivery in diverse communities. The key objective of HelpMeSee’s research is to accelerate the acquisition of excellent cataract surgery skills and live surgery practice delivery. You have already agreed to receive HelpMeSee Training and to permit us to use the data we collect from your training to assist us in the continuous improvement of our programs in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.
To support HelpMeSee’s objective of continuous improvement, you provide your Consent to HelpMeSee to share your de-identified, individual level or collective training data with research collaborators outside of HelpMeSee (your “Consent”). HelpMeSee collaborates with outside researchers when we determine they can help validate and improve our simulation-based training, accelerate our research, drive scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, and generally assist us to continuously improve our practice readiness to support and deliver the best surgical skills training in cataract and surgical practices available, with the highest standard of patient safety and results.
This Consent constitutes your valid and enforceable consent and serves as a supplement to our Individual Enrollment Form Terms and Conditions.
» What am I agreeing to?
Giving consent by signing this Consent means that you understand that HelpMeSee will share Your de-identified individual-level data with approved researchers outside of HelpMeSee.
» What does “de-identified” mean?
De-identified means that we strip the data of information that could directly identify you (such as name, date of birth, and address) and connect any study information you provide by using a random code (for example a study ID). Any performance and self-reported Information you allow us to share will be associated with that code, not with your name.
» What does “individual-level” mean?
Individual level means the data are related to a single person. Allowing researchers to have access to individual-level data allows them to analyze the data more thoroughly, which may help them make more meaningful scientific discoveries.
» Who are the HelpMeSee research collaborators?
Research partners range from academic institutions and non-profit organizations to demographic and public health departments.
» What are the additional benefits?
Sharing your individual-level data will allow more researchers to study and analyze the data more thoroughly. This may increase the chance that meaningful scientific discoveries are made, such as greater understanding of accelerated surgery skills acquisition through simulation-based training and the development of future simulation-based training modules.
Based on the information you provide, HelpMeSee or our research collaborators may make new discoveries. In the future, those discoveries could lead to new products or services including services for commercial development and deployment of simulation-based surgery training. If this happens, these products or services will be the property of HelpMeSee and in certain cases the researchers who developed them and you will not receive any compensation.
» What are the additional risks?
Sharing your individual-level data means your data would be stored in more locations. This would increase the risk of a security breach that could lead to the leak of your data. In the event of such a breach, if some or part of Your generic or self-reported data is associated with Your identity in a public database, someone may match Your name with Your self-reported data.
If HelpMeSee shares Your generic or self-reported data with a research collaborator, this action cannot be undone, and Your data will not be returned.
