Cataract Surgery Course

September 1 @ 9:00 am - September 4 @ 5:00 pm

MSICS Simulation Training Course Details:
In this course, you will learn the complete MSICS procedure as standardized by HelpMeSee. MSICS revolves around making and using a well-constructed tunnel to work inside the eye. The tunnel is used to remove the cataract and implant an IOL.
Along with simulation training, you will undergo a self-paced eLearning course to strengthen your understanding of key concepts prior to simulation training.
The course is divided into four modules, each focussing on a specific segment of the surgery.
  1. Module A: Sclero-Corneal Tunnel Construction
  2. Module B: Capsulorrhexis & Nucleus Delivery
  3. Module C: Cortex Removal & IOL Implantation
  4. Module D: Restoration of Physiological Conditions
Objectives:
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • Understand and recall the different concepts related to MSICS
  • Understand tissue and instrument interactions and depth perception
  • Identify visual and tactile cues
  • Develop the required skills to perform MSICS in a simulated environment
Outcome:
This course will equip you with the necessary skills to perform Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery in a simulated environment, enabling a smooth transition to live surgery.

Phacoemulsification Simulation Training Course Details:
In this course, you will learn the complete Phaco procedure as standardized by HelpMeSee. This technique ultrasonically emulsifies the cataract and allows cataract removal through a small opening in the cornea. A foldable IOL is then implanted through the corneal incision.
Along with simulation training, you will undergo a self-paced eLearning course to strengthen your understanding of key concepts prior to simulation training.
The course is divided into five modules, each focusing on a specific segment of the surgery.
  1. Module A: Phaco Incisions
  2. Module B: Capsulorrhexis & Hydroprocedures
  3. Module C: Lens Removal – Divide & Conquer or Stop & Chop or Direct Chop
  4. Module D: Cortex Aspiration & IOL Implantation
  5. Module E: Visco Wash & Wound Hydration
Objectives:
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • Understand and recall the different concepts related to Phaco
  • Understand tissue and instrument interactions and depth perception
  • Identify visual and tactile cues
  • Develop hand, eye, and foot coordination by using the foot pedal
  • Develop the required skills to perform Phaco in a simulated environment
Outcome:
This course will equip you with the necessary skills to perform Phaco in a simulated environment, enabling a smooth transition to live surgery.
Prerequisites:
You should be an ophthalmologist with or without previous surgical experience in Phaco and have the following characteristics:
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Normal stereopsis
  • Good spatial skills
  • Basic computer skills – knows how to navigate a laptop keyboard, touch pad, mouse
You will be required to complete an eLearning course and assessment prior to starting simulation-based training.
