In partnership with HelpMeSee, the series brings attention to one of the most urgent and solvable global health crises: cataract blindness. Cataract blindness and vision impairment affects over 100 million people worldwide, mostly in low-income countries with women being disproportionately impacted. Without access to cataract surgery, blindness robs individuals of independence, opportunity, and hope. HelpMeSee is answering the call. Through cutting-edge simulation-based training, thousands of cataract specialists are being trained to deliver sight-saving surgeries in regions that need them most.

Together, we’re working toward a brighter future. Join us today. With your support, we can restore sight and transform lives.

Cataract blindness or visual impairment affects 100 million lives worldwide, but women bear the greatest burden

Women are less likely to receive sight-restoring surgery, and often, the youngest daughter in the family must stay home from school or work to care for a family member suffering from cataract blindness or visual impairment.

The Empowered program, hosted by Meg Ryan, sheds light on these disparities and the extraordinary steps HelpMeSee is taking to train cataract specialists in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS). These specialists can then go on to perform up to 30,000 cataract surgeries over the course of their careers.

HelpMeSee is proud to be featured in the powerful 7-minute episode that highlights how restoring sight not only transforms individual’s quality of life but uplifts entire families and communities while breaking cycles of poverty in low-income countries.
