Chief Medical Officer

Professor Van Charles Lansingh has worked to reduce blindness around the world and currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at HelpMeSee. In this role, he will lead the campaign's work with surgical partners arounf the world, while also serving as the lead for blindness and public health research. Dr. Lansingh has written extensively in various areas of ophthalmology, especially on blindness, and has worked for more than a decade as the Latin America Regional Coordinator for the IAPB. Medical Officer, Asia

Dr. Ranjit Maniar has been in clinical practice for over 35 years and currently serves as Medical Officer for Asia at HelpMeSee. In 1979 Ranjit earned his MD in Ophthalmology from the Lokmanya Tilak Medical College in Mumbai, where he specialized in cataract surgery. Since Dr. Maniar has had over three decades of experience as a Medical Administrator, Medical Systems Analyst and as an Auditor.

He has been the Chief Organizer for the Eye Advance International Conferences for the past 26 years and has presented innumerable papers on cataract, glaucoma, community ophthalmology, surgical techniques, and more subjects at national and international conferences. Dr. Maniar has served an undergraduate and a postgraduate teacher, and is excited to train the next generation of cataract specialists and lead at HelpMeSee.

Medical Officer, China

Dr. Yang Xiao is an experienced consultant and senior surgeon, currently serving as HelpMeSee’s Medical Officer for China. Over 25 years of medical practice, Dr. Xiao has performed over 20,000 cataract surgeries, including his work as a volunteer with HelpMeSee China since 2014. Dr. Xiao has mentored and trained over 40 ophthalmic surgeons through hands-on transfer of surgical skills, and believes in HelpMeSee’s mission of simulation-based training for cataract specialists as the future of surgical training.

Medical Officer, Africa

Dr. Jean-Marie André is HelpMeSee’s Medical Officer for Africa, providing his extensive experience in providing surgical training in West Africa. As an ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, he established a partnership through the Marseille School of Medicine which has successfully trained over 50 cataract surgeons for the West Africa region.

Since joining HelpMeSee in 2014, he has trained many more cataract specialists in Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) in Madagascar, Togo, and The Gambia. He is renowned as an inventor and developer of surgical instruments for cataract surgery, holding numerous patents for surgical instrumentation and serves as a leading consultant for cataract surgical instruments.
